Not many popular films give anything more than an ornamental place for the female lead. The presence of women behind the scenes, as directors or producers, has also been negligible in the male-dominated industry.

It is in this context that Ring Road Shubha, a film being made in Kannada with an all-woman crew, strikes as extraordinary. An attempt of a similar kind was made some 10 years ago in Hindi by actor-turned-director Revathy through Mitr, My Friend.

We are trying to explore every side of the story.”
